Parts of northeastern and southern Ontario are at risk of seeing thunderstorms develop Sunday afternoon

Ontario is at risk of seeing some thunderstorms develop on Sunday. A cold front draped over northeastern Ontario will clash with the humidity and heat, triggering a line of storms that will move through the province.

The main threats with this system are heavy rain, gusty winds, large hail, and the possibility of some localized flooding.

The storms begin early Sunday afternooon in northeastern Ontario, sweeping through cities such as Timmins and Sudbury, bringing the chance of heavy rain and large hail, in addition to strong winds.

The great risk for severe weather to develop will be in southern Ontario, particularly around the Windsor and Sarnia area. A trough draped over the Great Lakes will draw in the instability and team up with the lake breeze, risking the possibility of severe storms off of Lake Huron.

Like northeastern Ontario, the greatest risks of these storms in southern Ontario are heavy rain, strong winds, and hail, with the Windsor area seeing the strongest potential of large hail and localized flooding.
