Schwan’s purchases land for Sioux Falls plant, promises 650 new jobs
Schwan’s has purchased the land for its promised 700,000 square foot Asian food production facility in northwestern Sioux Falls, which will also come with a downtown office that will add another 50 jobs to the 600 already promised, the company announced in a Thursday news release.
The facility was announced in early 2021, a $500 million project that would be a major part of Foundation Park, the Sioux Falls industrial park that also holds an Amazon fulfillment center.
Schwan’s, a subsidiary of CJ Foods, added in the release that they are working with the city and state to design a “state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility” that will “enable the company to discharge water to the city with the least amount of impact on the city’s current operations.”
The release said the downtown office would add “50 high-paying jobs” to Sioux Falls, with the potential to grow to 100 when the production facility is complete.

The release did not specify the cost of the land purchase or an expected completion date for the project.
Gov. Kristi Noem is cited in the release as saying, “Schwan’s has recognized the superior business climate that the state offers,” and that “I know that their confidence in South Dakota is not misplaced and thank them for the additional investment that they are making.”
