Santa Anita: Sunday card offers $63,126 Pick 6 carryover
There is a Pick 6 carryover of $63,126 for Sunday’s eight-race card at Santa Anita. The total pool is estimated to approach $500,000.
On Saturday, the carryover was triggered with one race remaining when Coach Cronin won the eighth for trainer Kelly Bainum and paid $36.60 with Armando Ayuso in the irons. Favorites went 0-for-9 Saturday.
The consolation payout Saturday for tickets with five of six winners was $2,705.40.
Sunday’s $1 Pick 6 starts with the third race at 5:07 p.m. EDT. The sequence averages 7.7 starters per race before scratches.
Based on the morning line, the shortest-priced favorite is likely to come in the opening leg, a one-mile allowance/optional claimer on dirt. Lisa’s Nonno, trained by Mark Glatt and ridden by Antonio Fresu, is installed at 9-5 in a six-horse field.
The Desert Stormer Stakes going six furlongs on dirt, which goes as the seventh, looks to have two potential standouts. South American import Ricci, a multiple Group 1 winner in her native Chile, is listed as the 2-1 favorite for her U.S. unveiling. Trained by Bob Baffert, Richi will have Juan Hernandez in the irons.
The 5-2 second-choice in the Desert Stormer for fillies and mares is Anywho for trainer John Sadler. Anywho wheels back two weeks after shipping to Churchill Downs and airing by eight lengths on a sloppy track in a first-level allowance going six furlongs. She will be ridden by Antonio Fresu for the first time.
