Samsung Unveils Exynos W1000: A New Era of 3nm Wearable AP
On July 3, Samsung Electronics revealed the “Exynos W1000” on its semiconductor introduction website, marking a significant milestone in wearable technology. The Exynos W1000 is the first wearable application processor (AP) to utilize the latest 3nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) process, promising enhanced performance and power efficiency for smartwatches.
Samsung Electronics explained, “The Exynos W1000 helps users enjoy a premium experience while using their smartwatches longer, thanks to its low-power design based on the 3nm process and LPDDR5 memory upgrade.” This new chipset is expected to be featured in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch7, which will be unveiled at the ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event in Paris, France, on July 10 (local time).
The Exynos W1000 boasts a new CPU structure composed of one big core and four little cores, significantly enhancing performance and power efficiency. According to Samsung Electronics, the multi-core benchmark performance has increased up to 3.7 times compared to its predecessor, the W930, and the speed of accessing major apps has improved by 2.7 times. Additionally, the chipset includes a 2.5D Always-On-Display (AOD) engine, providing brighter and richer watch faces while enhancing power efficiency for longer smartwatch usage on a single charge. The chip size has also been reduced, allowing for more space within wearable devices and increasing design flexibility.
The Exynos W1000 is expected to support “on-device AI,” enabling real-time translation calls and voice recognition-based messenger replies directly from the wrist. The Galaxy Watch7 is also anticipated to include the second-generation Samsung BioActive Sensor, which will improve the accuracy of sleep measurement, exercise tracking, and biometric signal monitoring.
