Sabretooth confirmed for ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ return in new teaser
Deadpool and Wolverine is sure-to-be packed full of surprises, including various X-Men characters from years past popping back up. A new teaser officially confirms another one of these cameos.
Wolverine’s arch-enemy Sabretooth, first played in live-action form by actor Tyler Mane, is back in the footage that arrived Friday. “Ready to die?!” he says once he sees Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine.
Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool, however, needs to clean up his friend first before the scuffle. “You look ridiculous,” the red-suited Merc with a Mouth says, while plucking out all sorts of swords and knives stuck in the adamantium-clawed mutant’s torso. “People have waited decades for this fight. It’s not going to be easy.”
Jackman’s Wolverine and Mane’s Sabretooth first forayed on the big screen in 2000’s X-Men, directed by Bryan Singer. The character is Logan’s most famous adversary from the comics, though Mane hasn’t reprised the role again on screen since. In 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a prequel origin story, Liev Schreiber took over the Sabretooth role. So when Reynolds’ Deadpool says “people have been waiting decades” for Wolvie vs. Sabretooth, he really means it.
Though there have been hints to other characters from past X-Men movies returning for Deadpool and Wolverine — some more overt than others — only Aaron Stanford’s Pyro has been officially confirmed beyond Sabretooth. Stanford’s fire-wielding mutant was featured in 2003’s X2: X-Men United and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

Commenting on the cameos in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Shawn Levy teased: “I’ll say we didn’t start off with a wishlist. From the day we started devising this Deadpool and Wolverine story, we let the story dictate the characters, not the other way around. Aaron and his return as Pyro was an outgrowth of that, and that applies to pretty much all the characters you’ll see in the movie.”
Deadpool and Wolverine picks up years after the events of 2018’s Deadpool 2. Reynolds’ Wade Wilson has retired from being a superhero merc and is living a life as a used car salesman. Agents from the Time Variance Authority (the multiverse watchdogs first introduced in Disney+ series Loki) then arrive to pluck him from his reality and bring him to their boss, Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen), who tasks him with a greater mission. He’ll then team up with an alternate-universe version Wolverine (Jackman).
Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Colossus (Stefan Kapičić), Peter/Sugar Bear (Rob Delaney), Dopinder (Karan Soni), and Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) also return from past Deadpool movies.
Deadpool and Wolverine opens in theaters on July 26. Watch the new teaser above.
