Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day kicks off with guests in jaw-dropping hats and outfits

Each Royal Ascot enclosure has a different Dress Code.

Windsor Enclosure

Whilst there is no official dress code for the Windsor Enclosure, guests are encouraged to dress in smart daywear. A hat, headpiece or fascinator is encouraged along with a jacket and collared shirt.

Village Enclosure

As long as the dress or top isn’t strapless, off the shoulder or Bardot, it will be permitted. No sheer straps or sleeves, or anything of sheer nude or very-see through fabric is allowed. Lace and coloured tulle, voile and organza materials will be permitted.

No items relating to stag and hen parties are allowed for Royal Ascot as this would be considered novelty clothing.

Culottes can be chosen but the length and straplines should confirm to the rules of a dress or skirt. There is no maximum length required in this enclosure.

You wear a standard necktie, bow tie or cravat in the Village Enclosure.

Queen Anne Enclosure

All the dress code requirements of the village enclosure plus a fascinator or decorative headpiece or hat.

Royal Enclosure

A hat or headpiece with a solid base of four inches in diameter is mandatory in the Royal Enclosure. Fascinators are not permitted. Novelty hats (i.e. ones which are excessively oversized, or are promoting or marketing any product or brand) are not permitted.

Halter necks are not permitted within the Royal Enclosure, nor are strapless dresses and tops, off-the-shoulder straps, Bardot necklines, and one-shoulder garments.

Any top hat that is customised, for example with coloured ribbons, feathers or bands, or is any colour other than black or grey is not permitted within the Royal Enclosure.

Top hats may be removed within a restaurant, a private box, a private club or that facility’s terrace, balcony or garden. Hats may also be removed within any enclosed external seating area within the Royal Enclosure Garden.
