India beat Ireland by 8 wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 match played in New York on Wednesday (June 5). Rohit Sharma top-scored for the world No. 1 T20I team by making 52 runs from 37 balls. Men in Blue’s win over Ireland has helped Rohit become the third cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli to win 300 matches as an Indian player.

Rohit Sharma scored 52 runs from 37 balls for India against Ireland on Wednesday (June 5) during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 match played in New York. The right-handed batter hammered four fours and three sixes during his stay at the crease and helped India beat Ireland by eight wickets to get off to a winning start in the ongoing shortest format megaevent. By scoring 52 runs against the Irish team, Rohit achieved many batting milestones, and India’s win also helped him create new records.
Rohit has now become the most successful captain for India in T20Is. The 37-year-old has won 42 out of 55 T20Is played so far. MS Dhoni is second on the list with 41 wins in 72 T20Is as captain. The win over Ireland has also helped Rohit become the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat to win 300 matches as an Indian player.
Legendary Tendulkar, who played 664 matches for India across formats, won 307, and Kohli has been part of 314 wins for India. Former Indian captain and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is in the 4th spot with 295 wins in 535 matches.

Rohit’s knock of 52 runs on Wednesday at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York helped him become the third cricketer in the world after Virat Kohli and Babar Azam to score 4000 runs in T20Is and also the third player after Kohli (1142) and Mahela Jayawardene (1016) to score 1000 runs in the T20 World Cup.
With 4026 runs to his name in 152 T20Is played so far, Rohit is only behind Kohli in the list of leading run scorers in T20Is, whereas with 1015 runs in 40 games, he is the third highest run scorer in the T20 World Cup.
Rohit smacked three sixes against Ireland in the Group A match, which helped him become the first cricketer in the world to hit 600 sixes in international cricket. The Mumbai-based cricketer has 193 sixes to his name in T20Is, 323 in ODIs, and 84 in T20Is.
