Rock the Lake is back in Kelowna this weekend with a three-day show in the parking lot of Prospera Place, promising to be bigger and better than ever before.
With a new look and a new set up to Rock the Lake 2024, Prospera Place was the place to be Friday night, as many concertgoers took on the hot Kelowna heat in order to watch some of their favourite bands perform live.
“It’s been a lot of fun, obviously we are taking this year to be the biggest Rock the Lake it’s ever been. Over 5,000 every day, we’ve got bigger bands with Our Lady Peace and Theory of a Deadman, and really trying to move our genres into the ‘90s and 2000s with Daughtry and some of the other bigger bands this year,” said Mike Stawn, vice president of Prospera Place.
Lynam opened the weekend festival at 5:30 p.m. Friday, not wasting anytime to get into the groove and get the people of Kelowna off their feet, smashing and banging as they rocked across the stage.
Known for their hit song The Reason, which has over 1 billion streams on Spotify, Hoobastank hit the stage later in the night, stunning thousands of fans with their live performance, and giving everyone a reason to Rock the Lake.
“I’ve always been asked who that song is about and for a long time I thought what people were asking is who are you singing that song to? But it was never about someone specifically, but decades later I realized the song is really about me, about my own patterns that would reoccur in relationships,” said Doug Robb, lead vocalist for Hoobastank.
Aiming to attract concertgoers of all ages, Stawn tells Castanet there’s music across the entire weekend for more than 15,000 people to enjoy.
“It’s kind of hard if you have to catch one day because, honestly for me, on Friday it’s super cool because you have Theory of a Deadman. Santa Monica is a song I grew up listening to,” said Strawn.
“Obviously, with Hoobastank, they’re pretty cool and they’re kind of a genre I grew up with, and then on Saturday you’ve got Daughtry and Our Lady Peace. Our Lady Peace is massive in B.C. And last but not least, Tom Cochrane and 54-50, so to say any single day is really tough and we really try to broaden it out for that greater demographic.”
Single day tickets are still available for purchase for Saturday and Sunday, with Our Lady Peace headlining night two and Tom Cochrane closing out Rock the Lake 2024 on Sunday.
