Ricky Pearsall placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury List
The rookies for the San Francisco 49ers reported to training camp today. First-round pick Ricky Pearsall, who might be needed if Brandon Aiyuk isn’t around, has been placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
The Athletic’s Matt Barrows said that he has heard that Pearsall’s injury is not considered severe. A player generally winds up on this list after suffering an injury away from the team’s practice facility. That could be due to personal training, playing basketball, an injury from college, etc. Pearsall will still count against the 49ers 90-man roster.
If what Barrows is hearing is correct, we shouldn’t have to worry about the following: Pearsall would have to miss a minimum of four games if he remains on the NFI list after the final cut-down day in late August.
In an ideal world, Pearsall would be healthy and ready to roll by next week when the veterans report and could begin taking reps with the first-team offense if Aiyuk isn’t around. Training camp will be crucial for him to get reps, so his health is imperative.
