Reports: Bayern Munich lands blockbuster Premier League transfer of Michael Olise
Bayern Munich is reportedly on the verge of sealing another big transfer swoop in 22-year-old Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. Multiple reports trickled in on Friday, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein the first to break the news.
Olise is a dynamic left-footed attacker who starred at Reading in the Sky Bet Championship division as a teenager before blossoming in the past three seasons at Palace. His move to Bayern puts the positions of Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman in the spotlight — as well as German men’s national team star Leroy Sané, who is currently the only left-footed winger in the squad.
Transfers journalist Fabrizio Romano detailed that Palace tried to keep Olise and both Manchester United and Newcastle United tried to land him as well.
Meanwhile Sport Bild is reporting (captured via @iMiaSanMia) that Olise will arrive via his current contract’s €65M release clause and earn €13.5M gross at Bayern. While that salary would not put him in the upper tier at Bayern, it was apparently too rich for Chelsea FC’s blood, according to DiMarzio editor Nathan Gissing. Via @iMiaSanMia:
Olise was keen to be the highest paid player at Chelsea, but the club is ultimately trying to cut down the wage bill and felt it was out of their range [@NathGissing]
It is a big scoop for the German Rekordmeister and the biggest signing so far of the new sporting regime led by Max Eberl as incoming head coach Vincent Kompany crafts his new-look Bayern attack.
