Report: Lamar Jackson suffers consequence for missing OTAs

During last year’s regular season, Jackson proved his worth to the league, but his efforts weren’t enough to propel the Ravens past Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. By not joining his teammates at OTAs, Jackson isn’t sending a message to the NFL world that he’s ready to get to work to avenge the loss.

Jackson is also losing money by sitting out this spring.

Mike Florio with NBC Sports is reporting the two-time NFL MVP will lose out on $750K for not appearing at voluntary OTAs this offseason.

“To qualify [for the workout bonus], he must participate in 80 percent of the offseason workouts, excluding mandatory minicamp,” Florio wrote. “He has already missed too many workouts, we’re told, to earn the $750,000 this year.

“The annual $750,000 payment were initially believed to be offseason roster bonuses. That is not the case; they are workout bonuses. Failure to earn the bonus drops his 2024 compensation from $32.5 million to $31.75 million.”

Jackson is keeping money in his owner’s pocket

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Jackson is not under any obligation to partner during the voluntary portion of OTAs. But he will still lose out on a significant amount of money he could have otherwise earned on his contract by showing up at the Ravens’ facility.

$750K is a small part of Jackson’s yearly base salary, but it’s still a massive amount of money in this economy. For an unknown reason, Jackson is keeping the money his agent negotiated for him in his owner’s pocket.
