Registration for Ride for Memories now open

One of the most important fundraisers for the Alzheimer Society of Kenora-Rainy River takes place in August.

Ride for Memories invites area motorcycle enthusiasts on a ride throughout the district.

Executive Director Rossana Tomashowski says money raised helps them provide their programs and services for free.

“We have our Dementia Cafe. We have support groups, and it funds that,” says Tomashowski.

“So, it really supports the caregivers and people affected with dementia. With the Memory Cafe, that’s for people affected with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and we do meaningful activities with them.”

Alzheimer Society personnel also make regular visits to hospitals, long-term care homes, and senior centers and hold sessions and meetings for the patients and families that are provided at no cost.

The ride takes place on August 10, but registration is now open.

“The riders will start in Kenora, Dryden, and Fort Frances, get breakfast, and everybody departs at different times. All will meet together in Nestor Falls for lunch at the Log Cabin Tavern at 11:30 a.m.”

Riders then travel to Rainy River for a snack before heading to Fort Frances for dinner at the Royal Canadian Legion.

“It will be a fun event, evening dinner. This is always a sold-out event. It’s good that if you want to attend the dinner, you live in Fort Frances or have friends who are riding, it’s good to get your tickets as soon as possible.”
