Recently offered UNC Basketball Recruiting target: ‘I Love UNC’

Following the recent open recruiting period, the UNC basketball program extended an offer to four-star big man Malachi Moreno.

This was an offer that seemed to be destined, as the Tar Heels have been showing interest in him for quite some time now. North Carolina did its homework and was comfortable to fully commit to recruiting the Georgetown, Kentucky native.

Moreno was one of the participants in the recent USA Men’s U18 National Team Training Camp, but ultimately was not selected for the 12-player team. Regardless, it was a great experience for Moreno, who got to compete against some of the top talent in the country.

The 6-foot-11 big man recently discussed his current recruitment with Matt Whitfield of ZagsBlog, as he had some very good things to say about the UNC basketball program:

“I love UNC. I love Coach Sean May. Me and Coach Davis talked the other week and it was a pretty good conversation. He’s a very funny guy. And it’s just a fun atmosphere to be around.”

Moreno added that Kentucky, Indiana, Baylor, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Iowa are the schools that are prioritizing him right now. Not only did the Tar Heels extend the offer, but seem to be putting on a full-court press to prioritize him on the recruiting trail.

If you’re a big man, who better to learn from than former national champion and NBA veteran Sean May. It appears that Moreno has already built a strong relationship with May, as Hubert Davis has also seemed to make a good first impression with his sense of humor and personality.

This will be an interesting recruitment to keep an eye on, as the UNC basketball program seems to be legitimately in the mix. They’ll have to fight off some strong contenders, such as Kentucky (given his home state) and Indiana (who has been in the mix for a long time now), but the Tar Heels may just have the recipe to entice him to make his way to Chapel Hill.
