RECALLS: Lawn mowers, kettles, bassinets and LED wall plates recalled in Ontario | insauga
This week, Ontario residents are urged to inspect a variety of recalls spanning from household products to outdoor garden equipment. Some items can cause fires, burns, electrical shocks, and even suffocation to children.
Kawasaki Engines Used in Bad Boy Mowers, Bobcat, Cub Cadet, Hustler, John Deere, and Kubota Brand Lawn and Garden Equipment
Kawasaki Engines used in various lawn and garden equipment have been recalled.
There are 19 models affected by the recall. The following are the first ten:
- FJ400D – ES04
- ES04 – FS04
- FS600V – DS20
- FS651V – HS05
- FS651V – JS05
- FX691V – FS18
- FX691V – GS18
- FX730V – FS17
- FX730V – GS17
- FX801V – CS25

The 21066-0785 voltage regulator on select Kawasaki engines can overheat.
The company reported that 900 units of the affected products were sold in Canada, and 68,500 were sold in the United States between April 2021 to December 2023.
Risks: Potential fire and burn hazards.
What you should do: Stop using the equipment and contact Turf Care Products Canada to schedule a free repair.
As of June 6, 2024, the company has received no reports of fires or injuries in Canada. In the United States, there have been 8 reports of fires but no reports of injuries.
À la Cuisine Electric Kettles
The following items are part of the recall:
- 1.7 Litre Glass Electric Kettle, Blue LED Product number: JF-788 UPC: 32318527
- Stainless Steel Kettle, 1.8 Litre Product number: FY-2010C UPC: 32320067
- Stainless Steel LED Electric Kettle, 1.7 Litre Product number: JF-2015 UPC: 32318528
When plugged in, the kettle base may overheat, potentially causing the plastic on the electrical wire to melt.
The company reported that 20,647 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between January 2023 to May 2024.
Risks: Poses fire hazard.
What you should do: Stop using the product and go to one of the following outlets: Hart Stores, Maison en Gros, Hart Home or Hart Maison to receive a new kettle of equal value.
As of May 30, 2024, the company has received three reports of the kettle base overheating during use. No injuries have been reported.
Fodoss Baby Bedside Bassinet
The following products are affected:
- Black (dark grey) Production Code: X003B2IM0Z ASIN: B0B5D5Q91L
- Grey (ash grey) Production Code: X003DJFCN1 ASIN: B0BBVVSN37
They can be identified by the model number NEW329 and serial number 0D-329, which are on the product packaging and label. The production code is displayed on the outer packaging label.
Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has found that these cradles do not comply with Canada’s Cribs, Cradles and Bassinets Regulations. The sleep surface of the cradles has an incline angle greater than 7 degrees, posing a risk of entrapment and suffocation to the child.
Health Canada advises parents and caregivers that the safest sleep environment for a baby is on their back on a firm, flat surface specifically designed for sleep.
The company reported that 3,916 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between October 2023 to April 2024.
Risks: Poses entrapment and injury hazard.
What you should do: Discontinue using the product and safely dispose of it in such a way that it cannot be used again.
As of May 8, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
Duplex Electrical Outlet Wall Plate with LED Night Lights
The recalled product is a 4-pack of snap-on outlet cover plates, resembling regular wall plates but doubling as night lights. Sold on Amazon.ca under ASIN B082W66D6J, the plates have two electrical prongs extending from the back, contacting both sets of screws on standard receptacles to power three bottom-mounted LEDs.
The LEDs operate automatically with a light sensor without the need for batteries or wires.
Health Canada has determined that this product poses a significant electrical shock and fire risk.
Amazon.ca reported that 816 units were sold in Canada between November 2020 and August 2022.
The product has been removed from sale on Amazon.ca. Health Canada has also contacted the foreign third-party seller.
Risks: Potential electrical hazard.
What you should do: Dispose of the product per municipal electronic waste requirements.
To date, no incidents or injuries related to this product have been reported to Health Canada.
