Rashford comes off social media with pointed message to critics after FA Cup win
Marcus Rashford has announced his exit from social media in the wake of a dreadful season that saw him score just eight goals, though he did help Manchester United to win the FA Cup
Marcus Rashford has announced he is quitting social media in the wake of Manchester United‘s win in the FA Cup final.
Rashford played 74 minutes at Wembley on Saturday to help United beat fierce rivals Manchester City and lift the trophy. The attacker has endured a miserable season for the Red Devils, scoring just eight goals in all competitions.
He has come under intense criticism for his performances, with some suggestions United could be open to selling him this summer. Given his wretched form, England boss Gareth Southgate also opted to leave Rashford out of his squad for Euro 2024.
Now, the United star has revealed he will taking a break from social media at the start of the summer. As he announced the move, Rashford also took the chance to fire back at his critics.
He tweeted: “It’s time to come off Socials for a few weeks. I plan to rest and reset mentally after a challenging season individually and collectively. Thanks to the fans that stood by me through a difficult period. To the ones that didn’t just remember at United, we always stick together.”
Immediately after the final win, Rashford has posted a series of pictures to commit his future to United. First, he posted a photo from the pitch, with the caption reading: “People want to know what Man United means to me!”
He then posted a picture from the dressing room holding up the trophy, with his caption reading: “The winning team.” Goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo secured the win, with boss Erik ten Hag left delighted.

“As always the rivalry is always there and it is always much more important when you play against a team from your own city. For us it was not about this, it was about proving a point after having such a bad year,” he said.
“Every time we had to survive. The team showed so much resilience and I am so proud of them. Football is about winning trophies at the end of the day. I want to play the best football, attacking football, dynamic football.
“But in the end, you have to win games and trophies. That is the mentality we brought in and we had only one opportunity this season, in the FA Cup. I am very proud of the players and the staff because they did a fantastic job.
“I am proud as well, firstly of the players and the staff. The fans for the whole season, I remember at Crystal Palace a few weeks ago we were bad and they still backed us, they are incredible. I said after Brighton last week we have the best fans in the world.”
