Prospect Watch: Entries include Shedaresthedevil half-sibling

Horse Racing Nation’s Prospect Watch scans all upcoming entries for starters early in their careers who sold for more than $500,000 at their most recent auction or whose dams or siblings are graded-stakes winners.

Among this week’s runners who meet the Prospect Watch criteria are these spotlight maidens:

Sunday

Churchill Downs race 8, half-sibling to Shedaresthedevil

Star of Wonder, a 3-year-old colt by Uncle Mo, is a half-sibling to 2020 Kentucky Oaks winner Shedaresthedevil. Brad Cox trains this colt, who debuts going one mile on dirt Sunday in race 8 at Churchill Downs. Jockey Flavien Prat has the reins. Bred by WinStar Farm, Star of Wonder is co-owned by WinStar and Siena Farm.

Friday

Churchill Downs race 1, 2-year-old half-sibling to Newgate

Adeera, a 2-year-old filly by first-year sire Authentic out of Grade 3-placed Majestic Presence, debuts at 5 1/2 furlongs for trainer Steve Asmussen. This filly is a half-sister to Newgate, who won the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) in April. Adeera is co-owned by L and N Racing an Jerry Caroom.

In that same race is Salted, a 2-year-old Tapit filly out of Grade 1 winner Salty. Salty won the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) at 3 and ran second to Abel Tasman in the Alabama (G1). She finished her career with a win in the La Troienne (G1). Salted, her second foal, is trained by Mark Casse for owner Gary Barber.

Saturday

Churchill Downs race 2, half-sibling to Grade 3 winner Sprawl

Second Service, a 3-year-old colt by Runhappy out of Amen Again is a half-sibling to Grade 3 winner Sprawl. Trainer Tommy Drury conditions the colt for owner-breeders Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilshnieder.

In the same race is Stormin Tanda, a Midnight Storm colt out of stakes winner Tanda. Trainer Al Stall has this gelding ready to roll for owner-breeder Tommy Hutton’s Dream Stable, who also raced Tanda, a stakes-winning sprinter.

Belterra Park race 8, Ikran, half-sibling to Shared Belief. This 4-year-old Curlin filly ran fifth in her debut at Gulfstream Park.

Woodbine race 5, Commander Worsley, half-sibling to Shotgun Hottie. In his first start, this 2-year-old colt by Echo Town ran fifth going 4 1/2 furlongs. He stretches out to 5 in this second try.

Saturday

Churchill Downs race 4, Three previous Prospect Watch fillies try to make their second starts a winning one. Bells Beach, a $675,000 yearling by Curlin out of Luminance; Flawless Quality, by Quality Road out of Grade 1 winner Internallyflawless; and $350,000 yearling Soundbite, by Audible out of Abtasaamah, a half to Grade 3 winner Elsa.

Santa Anita race 1, Rostovsky, 3-year-old colt by Liam’s Map out of stakes winner Flashy American

Penny Royal, the full sister to champion Good Magic, finished fifth in her debut at Churchill Downs. Pride’s Crossing, the other filly noted in the race, won it.

White Sands, the half-sister to champion Jackie’s Warrior, broke her maiden in her first start at Belterra Park.
