Minister of Tourism and Sport Joseph Schow plans to showcase Alberta as a destination of choice while strengthening partnerships in South Korea and Japan over the next week.
Provincial officials say Minister Schow will meet with key travel trade representatives in Tokyo and Seoul, as well as government officials from Gangwon, South Korea and Hokkaido, Japan to promote the province, strengthen relations and develop South Korean and Japanese markets.
Government officials say international travellers are an important part of Alberta’s visitor economy, as they stay longer, spend more, and explore more parts of the province. Consistent, convenient air access is also critical to attracting international visitors to Alberta and is a focus of the province’s long-term tourism strategy. Through strategic investments, Travel Alberta has increased air access to the province from both South Korea and Japan, opening the door for visitors from Asian markets.
“I’m proud to represent Alberta as we work to strengthen our relationships with these important international markets and our sister-provinces of Gangwon and Hokkaido,” shares Joseph Schow, Minister of Tourism and Sport. “I look forward to sharing all that our province has to offer, from our incredible natural beauty to diverse Indigenous cultures, our dynamic cities and the unique charm of our small towns. Together, we will support the growth of Alberta’s visitor economy by inviting Japanese and South Korean travellers to experience Canada’s wild side in Alberta.”
