Privateers Men’s Basketball: Hollowell Announces Coaching Staff – University of New Orleans Athletics

NEW ORLEANS – Stacy Hollowell, the new head coach of the University of New Orleans men’s basketball team, announced the four members of his inaugural coaching staff on Thursday. 

Trey Lindsey, Javan Felix, Andrew Fava, and Silvey Dominguez have been appointed assistant coaches to kick off the new era of Privateer basketball after Hollowell assumed the role of the program’s 13th head coach on April 25, 2024. 

Felix, who will serve as assistant coach and director of player relations, and Dominguez each have a year of experience at the University of New Orleans as assistant coaches under former head coach Mark Slessinger during the 2023-24 season. 

“Javan Felix was an integral part of our national championship team. Javan builds great relationships with players and challenges them to grow beyond the game,” said Hollowell. 

“He is very adept at skill development, and having played professionally, he has a high-level understanding of the game. That experience will be of great value to our team.” 

“Silvey Dominguez brings a wealth of experience and an impressive resume. There aren’t many situations that he has not encountered. His depth of knowledge will be vital for our staff and team,” Hollowell added. 

Felix, Lindsey, and Fava have a history with Hollowell, having been key components of the Wolfpack’s success during his tenure as head coach, amassing a win-loss record of 166-78 and winning a NAIA National Championship in 2022. 

Lindsey, an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, joins the team after two seasons as the head coach at his alma mater, Bowie High School. Lindsey spent one season on Hollowell’s staff at Loyola, serving as an assistant coach. Lindsey played a pivotal role in recruiting Zach Wrightsil and Myles Burns, who went on to become three-time All-American recipients in the NAIA. 

“Trey Lindsey was a crucial part of the championship team we built at Loyola. His knowledge and experience of the game will be invaluable for our student-athletes,” Hollowell said. 

After Loyola, Lindsey spent four years at St. Edward’s University as an assistant coach. During his tenure, the Hilltoppers made their first-ever Sweet 16 appearance, advanced to the NCAA tournament twice, appeared in three straight conference tournament championship games, and won a Heartland Conference regular season and tournament championship in 2018. He amassed an 86-28 record during that stretch. 

Lindsey began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at St. Edward’s in 2016-17 after finishing his collegiate career as a player for the Hilltoppers in 2016. A stellar student-athlete, Lindsey started in all 60 games he appeared in, averaging 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. 

He also played two years of NCAA DI basketball at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. Lindsey appeared in 45 games for the Warhawks and made 14 starts during that span, highlighted by an 18-point performance against Arkansas-Little Rock during his sophomore season. 

Before heading to Monroe, Lindsey was a three-year letterman at Bowie High School in Austin, where he helped the Bulldogs capture two district championships and one regional crown during his tenure. 

Lindsey graduated from St. Edward’s in 2017 with a Master of Science in Leadership and Change after earning his Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology at St. Edward’s in 2015. 

Fava, an assistant coach and director of operations for the Privateers, returns to New Orleans following one season as an assistant coach at Belmont Abbey College. 

Fava began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach for Loyola New Orleans alongside Felix under head coach Donald Reyes, contributing to the Wolf Pack securing both the SSAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships for the second consecutive year. 

“Fava was one of the hardest-working players and best leaders that I have ever coached. He can teach shooting at a very high level. He’s super organized and driven to be great, and we are excited to add him to our staff,” Hollowell said. 

In 2021-22, Fava finished his collegiate career as part of Loyola’s National Championship team. He was one of just two players on the team to start all 38 games and was selected as Second-Team All-SSAC after averaging 9.5 points, 2.1 assists, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.  

Fava transferred to Loyola as a graduate student from the University of Florida, where he earned All-SEC Academic Honor Roll honors twice. At Florida, he also helped tie an NCAA record as the Gators had nine different players hit a three-pointer in a game against North Florida. 

A Baltimore native, Fava attended Loyola Blakefield High School, where he was a two-time Baltimore Catholic League Honorable Mention and team captain in basketball.  

Fava earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Florida and a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing and Communications from Loyola New Orleans. 

Hollowell also added Andrew Stagni to the staff as a graduate assistant coach. Stagni played all four years at Loyola, including three seasons under Hollowell (2019-22), two seasons under Felix (2021-23) as an assistant coach, and one season under Fava (2022-23) as a volunteer assistant coach. Stagni was a two-time SSAC All-Academic Team selection and earned his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications.
