Prince Harry wants ‘permanent home’ in London near his friends: Report

Prince Harry is reportedly looking for his “own permanent home in the U.K.” near his mates, who don’t visit because they have issues with wife Meghan Markle.

So if his friends won’t visit him in the United States, Harry is believed to be on the hunt for his own pad across the pond, according to The Mirror.

Harry and Meghan left England in 2020 and found a new home in Santa Barbara, Calif., where they are raising their two children — Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 3.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex haven’t had a place in Britain since they were evicted from Frogmore Cottage in 2023, so Harry, tired of staying in hotels during visits there, wants to find a new London base.

“As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the U.K.,” royal author and expert Tom Quinn told the publication.

“Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the states is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles.”

Harry wrote in his memoir Spare how he thought Frogmore Cottage would be his “forever home,” but realized after meeting up with King Charles and Prince William following Prince Philip’s funeral that it wasn’t going to happen.

“Once upon a time, this was going to be my forever home,” he penned. “Instead it had proved to be just another brief stop.”

The couple’s eviction process began in January 2023, a day after the book was released.

Quinn explained that Harry misses his pals from Eton College and his buddies from the army, “many of whom have not visited as they don’t get on with Meghan.”

However, it wouldn’t necessarily be some sort of British bachelor pad where Meghan and the kids wouldn’t be around.

In fact, Quinn told The Mirror that Meghan is prepared to go back to the U.K. — but only if they have their own home there.

“Meghan has said she’s only prepared to return to England if she and Harry have a place of their own and the security they both feel is essential,” he said. “Meghan will never return to the U.K. and stay with her husband‘s relatives.

“If the couple manage to find a permanent home and sort out the security issue, they will certainly want to bring their children to the U.K. but it’s going to take a lot of diplomacy to get to the point where Archie and Lili are able to develop a genuine and warm relationship with their cousins George, Charlotte and Louis.”

According to Quinn, “Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the U.K., which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security,” referring to a London court’s decision to strip the Sussexes of taxpayer-funded security protection.

Earlier this year, Harry was ordered to pay 90% of the U.K. Home Office’s legal costs after a judge said the government didn’t act irrationally when it stripped him of security privileges after he quit working as a member of the royal family and moved to the U.S., but he has since won the right to appeal and will continue to challenge the division made by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), a spokesperson told the BBC.

“The duke is not asking for preferential treatment, but for a fair and lawful application of Ravec’s own rules, ensuring that he receives the same consideration as others in accordance with Ravec’s own written policy,” the statement said.
