Preparing for Summer Air Travel
Bloomberg analyzed flight schedule data from Cirium, a data analytics company in the travel industry, to create a visualization showing where booking domestic U.S. flights will be most difficult this summer as airlines reduce flights due to a lack of planes and high demand. The southern United States has suffered the most drastic flight cuts, with some cities experiencing a decline of over 10 percent. The visualization shows the negative impact that such seat cuts have on major flight hubs: cutting available seats on scheduled flights to Atlanta, for example, has reduced available flights to popular destinations like New York and Miami by tens of thousands.
