Police charge suspect in SE Calgary hotel murder

Police have found and charged a suspect in connection with a murder at a southeast Calgary hotel more than three months ago.

Officers were called to a Super 8 hotel on Shawville Road SE, near Macleod Trail and 162 Avenue SE, on Mar. 25 for reports of a shooting.

A man was found injured inside a fourth floor suite and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as 29-year-old Liban Abdirahman.

In an update Thursday, Calgary police say they have charged 29-year-old Ahmed Abdi Hassan with one count of second-degree murder in connection to the shooting.

The suspect was found in Red Deer and arrested with help from the Red Deer RCMP. He was brought to Calgary and remains in police custody.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to contact police.
