Plattsburgh pharmaceutical company expands with new facility, more jobs

Plattsburgh, NY- A business’s new addition means more jobs in the North Country as a pharmaceutical company is making a major expansion with a brand new facility.

Medisca isn’t new to Plattsburgh, the pharmaceutical company has been operating in the North Country since 1992. What is new is their new state-of-the-art facility, bringing with it dozens of more jobs.

Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman said, “Today we are really celebrating the next phase of Medisca’s investment here in the Town of Plattsburgh.  We have long said that we are globally known and regionally significant.  This is another example of a company that recognizes that Plattsburgh is a great place to invest in, and further reinvest in.”

Despite the scorching heat, Medisca hosted an outdoor soiree with food and drinks and lots of familiar faces. Assemblyman Billy Jones was in attendance, along with Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.

Jones said, “I want to thank Medisca for investing in the North Country and investing in Plattsburgh. 

Stefanik said, “This is a really exciting day. We’re so proud to be here for the ribbon cutting of Medisca, which of course, has been in Clinton County and specifically the Town of Plattsburgh for decades. And this expansion is an extraordinary accomplishment.  It’s a testament to the high quality of our workforce locally.”

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a tour of the new facility was held. The 60,000-square-foot building will consolidate Medisca’s repackaging and distribution operations in Plattsburgh from four buildings down to one.

It also allows the company to produce up to 5 times its current levels, which means more jobs in the community. Larry Harney, Plattsburgh operations manager for Medisca, said, “We’re operating 4 buildings, and we have to move everything in and still be able to service the compounding industry. So, our challenge at the moment is bringing everything in-house but also meeting the demand of our current customers. By August we should be fully operational 100%”
