Durali Properties has unveiled plans for a new Marriott Hotel as part of a development permit application presented to city planners this week.
The six-storey hotel would be situated in what is presently part of the Ramada Hotel parking lot between the Ramada and Sandman Inn.
The application describes a 116-room hotel with meeting space, a fitness centre, swimming pool and water slide, walkout roof-top patio and surface parking.
“The goal of this project is to finish developing the site by building a six-storey medium density hotel,” the application states.
“We are confident that all significant elements required by the planning department have been addressed in this design.
“With special attention to the interface with adjacent properties we believe that the entire design team has been extremely creative in arriving at a financially viable and workable solution.”
An initial development proposal in April provided few details as to the scope of the project however there was an indication it would be tailored to accommodate the demand for short-term rentals in the city.
Nothing in the current application speaks to short-term rentals.
Two previous proposals for hotels on the property, including a 12-story building, never moved forward.
Durali Properties purchased the Ramada Hotel a year ago.
