Pixel 9 Pro Leak Reveals Google’s Powerful Upgrade
The upcoming Pixel 9 family of smartphones will introduce the next generation of on-device AI, and Google has ensured that it will have the tools to do so.
The team at Rozetked has uncovered new details on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. Following the publication of leaked images of Google’s 2024 flagship smartphones, the team has followed up the photos with benchmark results of the three phones, and there’s a significant jump in processing power.
These coarse benchmarks show a performance increase of 16, 31, and 34 percent between the Pixel 8 and the three Pixel 9 models.
It’s worth noting that the three Pixel 9 variants listed here have different benchmarking results. This could be a hardware-related issue; the larger handsets may be keeping the chipsets cooler by wicking away more heat. You also have to consider that the handsets are not expected to launch for another three to four months so the software will not be as efficient as it will be at launch.
Given the current smartphone trends, the performance increase will be leveraged by the various locally run AI tools, both for faster implementation of the current tools and to unlock more capability of newer tools.
With the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro launch, Google heralded the coming of the AI smartphone. The majority of manufacturers followed that lead, and AI is now an integral part of the smartphone ecosystem. Apple might even join in by previewing its AI ambitions at next week’s WWDC ahead of a potential iOS release for the iPhone in early 2025.
The combination of the Pixel 9 and the new Tensor G4 will accelerate AI on smartphones, allowing Google to continue defining artificial intelligence’s role in various ecosystems.
