Phinsider Question Of The Day: NFL MVP Edition/W Poll
Tonight’s question of the day will center around one of the team’s players, who seems to cause a bigger divide in the fan base than almost anyone else. I’m, of course, speaking of the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa. There are still plenty of Dolphins fans who would trade Tua for a whole list of other quarterbacks, and honestly, believe that he’s no better than any of the other QBs that have washed through here since the Marino days. There is also the other half (I have no actual proof of what percentage of fans fall where on this issue) of the fan base that believes he is by far the best quarterback in Miami since Dan retired and those of us who can not see it are fools or something along those lines.
With that huge split among our fanbase, I found it quite interesting to hear certain fans and even some podcasts/Miami Dolphins YouTube channels floating the idea that Tua could very well be headed toward an MVP 2024 NFL season. I don’t know what would have to happen or what Tua’s numbers would have to look like for him to win the honor, but I do know that it would have to go hand in hand with the Dolphins winning most of their games this coming season. I, for one, don’t know that the MVP honor is around the corner for Tua, but I would be very happy if he won it because it could only mean very positive things for the team that we all spend so damn much time and money following.
Tua has, of course, been working with former Miami Dolphins quarterback-turned QB Guru John Beck this offseason. Apparently, what Beck was never able to accomplish himself at the NFL level is something that he is very good at teaching others to do at the NFL level. This never makes sense, but there is a long list of run-of-the-mill/horrible/backup-level former NFL quarterbacks who have become much more successful in the game in their roles off the field at some level of coaching. Beyond hiring a quarterback coach this offseason to work on some of his mechanics, Tua has also dropped around 15 pounds in an effort to become more agile when trying to allude pass rushers. This seems odd one season after intentionally bulking up to be able to better take hits from the same said pass rushers, but hey, I am only a guy with a keyboard. What the hell do I know?
So tonight’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is: Do you see Tua having a legitimate shot at winning the NFL’s MVP of the Year award this coming season? Do you think that some of the changes that Tua has made and some of the additions to the offense make it more likely or not that he could win the award? Additionally, what would you think his winning the award would mean to the team as a whole as it applies to overall success on the field this coming season? And if you are one of those who thinks he’s straight-up terrible, what’s the best outcome for this team with Tua as the team’s continued starter?
