Philipp Lahm could return to Bayern Munich
It has been seven years since Philip Lahm retired from professional football, and seven years since his stellar career at Bayern Munich ended. Lahm spent twelve years of his career playing for Bayern, but it looks like he could spend some more time at Sabener Strasse.
When asked in an interview not so long ago, Uli Hoeneß said that he would not consider hiring Lahm for a front office gig at Bayern, owing to his lack of experience in an executive position. But the Bayern Munich legend now has gained some experience in the area, after serving as the tournament director for UEFA European Championship 2024 (the Euro’s). With his current experience, Philipp Lahm was asked in an interview whether he would consider a job at Bayern Munich.
As reported by Christian Falk, Lahm gave a cryptic response that could mean anything:
Uli Hoeneß once didn’t want to appoint you as FC Bayern board member because you lacked experience as an executive. You now have experience. Are there any thoughts of returning to your former club?
Philipp Lahm: “Let’s see what happens.”
Considering that Bayern Munich is currently undergoing multiple changes, and that the club is most definitely going to be restructuring, Lahm could return to Sabener Strasse for a front office role. When he retired in the 2016/17 season, he turned down an offer to be the club’s sporting director. Seven years later, perhaps he would be interested.
