Phil Spencer Addresses Xbox Handheld Console Rumors
Microsoft held its annual Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday afternoon, and with it came a look at 30 games and the announcement of three new series consoles. What wasn’t announced, however, was the highly rumored Xbox Handheld that the company is working on. In an interview with IGN, Xbox head Phil Spencer talked about the lack of an announcement and where things stand.
“The future for us in hardware is pretty awesome,” Spencer told the outlet. “The work that the team is doing around different form factors, different ways to play, I’m incredibly excited about.
“Today was about the games… but we will have a time to come out and talk more about platform, and we can’t wait to bring it to you.”
Spencer was then asked if this new handheld would be a cloud-only system, or if it would all for local installations and gameplay. To that Spencer said that playing games locally on a handheld is “really important.”
There’s no timetable on when this rumored Xbox handheld console will happen. However, with Spencer not denying it’s existence, it seems to be only a matter of time before gamers get something more concrete on that front.
