Making his first start since finishing third in the UAE Derby (G2) at Meydan Racecourse, Pandagate claimed a slim victory in the $159,000 New York Derby July 15 at Finger Lakes.
Stalking the lead from the start, Dylan Davis kept the son of Arrogate within striking distance early. Holding steady until the final turn, Davis moved four-wide and made it a three-horse race with a furlong to go.
Skyler’s Starship , who had led just short of the opening mile, was vying to hang on when challenged by Pandagate and 4-5 favorite Doc Sullivan . Pandagate ($4.70) won by three-quarters of a length over Doc Sullivan in 1:45.63 for 1 1/16 miles on a fast track. Skyler’s Starship was third.
The Christophe Clement trainee improves to 2-0-1 from three starts this year with more than $250,000 in earnings. Owned by Adelphi Racing Club, Madaket Stables, Corms Racing Stable, and On The Rise Again Stable, the ridgling is 3-0-2 from five career starts with $297,050 in purse money.

Earlier in Monday’s card, Caldwell Luvs Gold pulled away down the stretch to take home the $75,000 New York Oaks.
The 3-year-old daughter of leading sire Goldencents was happy to let Sweet Brown Sugar set the tone early while shadowing her around the track. Manny Franco urged trainer Brad Cox’s 2-5 favorite down the stretch and she outran Sweet Brown Sugar by 3 1/4 lengths in 1:46.22.
