Osler and MOLLI Surgical collaborate to revolutionize breast cancer surgeries

In an innovative new collaboration, William Osler Health System (Osler) and MOLLI Surgical are introducing the award-winning MOLLI® 2 System to revolutionize breast cancer surgery for patients in Brampton, North Etobicoke and surrounding communities. This partnership will enhance the care experience and surgical precision for breast cancer patients requiring the surgery as part of their treatment plan, as well as boost operational effectiveness.

MOLLI Surgical’s technology is an innovative wire-free and radiation-free technology that targets breast abnormality and marks the location of a lesion precisely, for removal during surgery. This home-grown Canadian technology is considerably less invasive for patients and more accurate when compared to wire-guided insertion into a patient’s tissue on the day of surgery. As an added benefit for the community, by using the MOLLI® 2 System, Osler’s team can schedule more breast cancer removal surgeries in a day.

“We are thrilled to embark on this transformative journey with MOLLI Surgical, to benefit hundreds of patients diagnosed with cancer and receiving care at Osler,” said Jane de Lacy, Vice President, Clinical Services, William Osler Health System. “The need for cancer care in our communities is increasing, and we are committed to providing state-of-the-art care, empowering patients with advanced treatment options, and optimizing our capabilities to meet the rising demand for cancer care services.”

The MOLLI 2 System, comprising the MOLLI® Marker, MOLLI® Tablet, and MOLLI® Wand, offers unmatched precision in marking the location of lesions for surgical removal, eliminating the need for invasive procedures. The technology features a market-leading innovation – real-time 3D guidance – to guide the surgeon to the exact location of the lesion with millimeter precision.

“With MOLLI 2, the localization process can take place before surgery,” said Dr. Roberta Minna, Chief of Surgery and Co-Medical Director, Surgical Services, William Osler Health System. “By completing the localization of the abnormal breast tissue separately, and up to a month in advance of the surgery, care teams can improve their workflows to create an improved experience for patients and clinicians.”

“At MOLLI Surgical, we are dedicated to transforming the landscape of cancer surgery by offering innovative solutions that prioritize the patient experience and surgical precision,” said Ananth Ravi, President and CEO of MOLLI Surgical. “We are proud to partner with Osler in delivering advanced care to people living with breast cancer.”

Key benefits of the MOLLI 2 System include:

  • Enhanced patient experience and surgical confidence.
  • Increased operational capacity for Osler, allowing for more breast cancer surgeries to be scheduled on a given day.
  • Precise localization of lesions using the MOLLI Marker – the smallest on the market at 3.2 mm – for more accurate and less invasive surgical interventions.
  • A constantly advancing suite of tools and technology. MOLLI Surgical recently announced MOLLI OncoPen™: a thinner wand profile with a 30-degree angled tip for an unobstructed surgical field and the ability to create even smaller incisions and minimize scarring.

This collaboration underscores Osler’s commitment to innovation and patient-inspired care, making the organization a leader in cancer care services within the region.
