Opera integrates Google Gemini into Aria browser AI, can now generate images and talk-like humans
Opera’s AI browser assistant Aria is getting Google Gemini integration. It can now generate images from text and offer answers in a more conversational manner.
In partnership with Google Cloud, Opera announced that its AI assistant Aria is getting Google Gemini integration. Launched last year, Aria is a browser-based AI chatbot that uses various large language models and can answer user queries, help write code and generate images.
However, unlike AI chatbots like ChatGPT which are limited to one large language model, Opera Aria uses the multi-LLM Composer AI engine which processes the user query to determine which large language model is best for the task.

With the new Google Gemini integration, Opera says it will be able to offer the “most current information at high performance.” Opera has been aggressively integrating AI features into its browser lineup, with Aria available on all flagship browsers including Opera GX.
Opera also said that Aria can now read responses in a “conversational-like fashion”. This is pretty similar to ChatGPT’s Read Alout feature, which reads text just like how we humans do. Last month, Opera added a free Imagen-2-powered text to image generator.
Some other models Aria uses include Meta’s Llama, Google Gemma and Mixtral by Mistral AI. It can also plug into more than 150 local LLM vairants that belong to around 50 families of models.
Google’s Gemini family of large language models consists of Gemini Nano, the small model designed to run on mobile devices. While Gemini Pro 1.5 and Gemini Pro 1.5 Flash are medium-sized models, Gemini 1.0 Ultra is currently the tech giant’s most powerful model to date.
