Ontario to offer free admission to provincial parks on July 19 – NOW Toronto

Ontario is offering free admission to provincial parks next week as part of a global movement to promote exploring the outdoors.

In honour of Healthy Parks Healthy People Day, the province is giving visitors free access to any provincial park on July 19, which typically costs between $9 to $21 per vehicle.

“I invite all Ontarians to take advantage of this free pass to Ontario Parks, an opportunity to immerse yourselves in the joy and wonder of exploring the great outdoors,” Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks Andrea Khanjin said in a statement.

 “Whether you’re looking to get some exercise or seeking a fun and affordable day with your family, I hope this free day will give more people the opportunity to explore everything that their local provincial park has to offer,” she continued.

The province says it is enhancing recreational opportunities by building 300 new campsites and bringing electrical services to 800 existing campsites at several parks.

“Since 2018, the province has invested $55.4 million to help maintain and build more facilities including roofed accommodations in provincial parks to help meet the demand of the province’s growing population,” according to the media release.

Visitors are encouraged to book a daily vehicle permit five days in advance prior to July 19.

Visitors can access 76 of Ontario’s provincial parks for free that day as well. Camping and equipment facilities will be available for purchase.
