Ohio Derby guide: Get analysis, PPs, more for 3-year-old feature

The post-Triple Crown 3-year-old season begins in earnest on Saturday at Thistledown where ten sophomores-including two classic alumni-entered to race 1 1/8 miles for $500,000 in the Grade 3 Ohio  Derby.

The Ohio Derby is the last of 13 races on Saturday at Thistledown and has a post time of 6:30 p.m. EDT. It anchors an all-stakes pick 5 that also features the Lady Jacqueline Stakes and three added-money events for Buckeye-breds. Horse Racing Nation has free Brisnet Past Performances for the Ohio Derby and Lady Jacqueline.

This week’s Super Screener is also heavy on the Ohio Derby day content with a 20-1 push on one of the undercard stakes races.

Looking at the pace

Things look spirited up top with a pair of long shots projected to join Batten Down on the front end. Batten Down is the 8-1 fifth choice on the morning line, but HRN‘s AI-generated oddsline projects a price in the range of 3-1 to 5-1.

Ed DeRosa thinks pace scenario sets things up best for Copper Tax, who he identifies as the best value in his Ohio Derby fair odds.

HRN‘s analysis of the Ohio Derby and more

Those looking for an edge on Ohio Derby day and every day would do well to subscribe to the Super Screener package, which not only includes the Screener every week through Breeders’ Cup but also Power Picks and Horses to Single reports for every day of racing until then.

Power Picks are winning at 40 percentat the current Thistledown meeting and have a positive ROI at New York Racing Association tracks, Aqueduct and Saratoga, since April 1. Horses to Single is doing similarly well at NYRA facilities, going 13-for-24 with a positive 22 percent ROI in that time.

Also on tap this week is the Chicago Stakes on Saturday at Churchill Downs featuring a matchup of Vahva versus Society and a mandatory payout on the super high five on Sunday at Woodbine with the pool expected to top $1 million.

Ed DeRosa has fair odds available for both the Chicago and Woodbine’s Super High 5.
