NFL kicker accused of sexual assault on overseas team flight

NFL kicker Brandon McManus has been accused of sexually assaulting two women, who are suing him and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The women, who worked as flight attendants, allege McManus rubbed against them and acted inappropriately during the Jaguars’ charter flight to a game in London last season, according to ESPN. Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II are suing for at least $1 million and accusing the Jaguars of failing to supervise McManus.

“These are absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false allegations made as part of a campaign to defame and disparage a talented and well-respected NFL player,” McManus’ attorney, Brett R. Gallaway, said in a statement to ESPN on Monday night. “We intend to aggressively defend Brandon’s rights and integrity and clear his name by showing what these claims truly are – an extortion attempt.”

McManus, a 10-year NFL veteran, didn’t re-sign with the Jaguars in the offseason. He inked a one-year deal worth $3.6 million with the Washington Commanders in March.

“Earlier today, we were made aware of the civil lawsuit filed on May 24 against Brandon McManus. We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter,” the Commanders said in a statement. “We have been in communication with the League Office and Brandon’s representation, and will reserve further comment at this time.”

The lawsuit accuses McManus of grinding on the two women and attempting to kiss one on the team charter flight in September that “quickly turned into a party,” according to ESPN. They claim to have suffered from mental anguish and emotional distress and have been taken off the Jaguars’ main crew for charter flights.

“We’re aware of the complaint, and we acknowledge the significance of the claims,” the Jaguars said in a statement to ESPN. “As we continue to look into the matter, it bears emphasizing that we insist on an organization built by people who represent our community and game with the highest character and class.”
