NFL Analyst Doesn’t Hold Back About Packers’ Coach Matt LaFleur

Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers are gearing up for the 2024 NFL season. With offseason activities underway, fans are getting more and more excited for the regular season to arrive. The hype is high for the team after their impressive run during the 2023 campaign.

After trading Aaron Rodgers, no one gave the Packers much of a shot to compete last year. Despite the lack of belief that they could move on from Rodgers and remain competitive, Green Bay did just that.

They were able to fight their way into the playoffs and proceeded to blow out the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card. Unfortunately, despite outplaying the San Francisco 49ers nearly all game in the Divisional Round, the Packers saw their season end.

Despite the disappointing conclusion to last year, the Packers proved that they are still a serious threat to be reckoned with. That has led to big-time expectations for the upcoming season.

A lot of their success had to do with coaching. LaFleur got the absolute most out of his players and has done so since being hired by Green Bay.

During a recent segment on The Mina Kimes Show, Kimes chimed in with her thoughts about LaFleur. It’s clear that she’s a big fan of him. She ranked him as the No. 7 head coach in the NFL right now, but believes he could end up being much higher than that ranking.

“I feel like Matt LaFleur has a case to be a top-five head coach in the NFL right now. Last year, Green Bay was the fourth-youngest playoff team—not that year but ever in the modern NFL. Six of their 11 starters on offense were either rookies or guys in their second year. Everybody said: Show us you can do it without Aaron Rodgers. Well, he showed you that he could do it without Aaron Rodgers.”

Being able to make the jump from Rodgers to another budding superstar in Jordan Love helped out a lot.

Just like the Packers as a team last season, no one expected Love to be the next great quarterback behind Brett Favre and Rodgers. Despite the doubt he received from many, Love shut up his critics.

However, without a coach like LaFleur, Love’s first season as a starting quarterback could have gone much differently. LaFleur did an amazing job mentoring Love throughout the year. He instilled confidence in the young quarterback and then opened up the playbook in the second half of the year.

It will be interesting to see how the Packers fare during the 2024 campaign. Green Bay is no longer an underdog. Teams are going to be coming after them and they have a lot more tape to work with when it comes to game-planning for Love.

Green Bay has loads of young talent that should take a step forward and they also added both Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney in free agency. Brian Gutekunst also put together another stellar draft class.

There is no question that the Packers have more talent on their roster than they did last season. However, they’ll now need to prove that they can handle the hype and expectations and continue winning at a higher level than they did in the regular season last year.

LaFleur and company have their work cut out for them, but they’re ready for the challenge.
