BEAUTIFUL CROWN and Eireann Cagney are the combination to follow in the Style Awards On Ladies Day Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap (1.55) at Sandown on Friday.

The son of Helmet was on a 21-run losing streak when joining Jack Jones from Brett Johnson, but went off a well-backed 9-4 favourite on his first start for the Newmarket trainer in a one-mile handicap at Lingfield on June 10.

Although getting off to a sluggish start, Beautiful Crown powered home to beat Landlordtothestars by a length and a half.

My selection made his return to action under a 5lb penalty seven days later, partnered by Cagney in a similar event for amateur jockeys.

And the combination clicked, strong at the finish over a mile and a quarter to beat Breguet Boy by a length and three-quarters.

There’s an additional 5lb on Beautiful Crown’s back here, but a new figure of 70 is still 9lb shy of his peak rating with Johnson.

Sandown’s stiff mile looks tailor-made and Cagney’s record – a strike rate of 16 per cent with a healthy profit to level stakes – means Beautiful Crown won’t want for assistance from the saddle in his hat-trick bid.

At Haydock, the lightly raced VICARIO has plenty going for him as he bids for a first career victory in the Barrie Wells Trust Box4Kids Handicap (7.53).
