Golf tourney for the kids

A new golf tournament in support of local minor hockey is coming to Summerland.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, the first annual Barker Invitational will take place at the Summerland Golf and Country Club.

Proceeds will support youth registered in Summerland Minor Hockey, to ensure families in need of financial assistance have access to the sport through a variety of scholarships.

The tournament will be a four-person Scramble beginning at 2 p.m. with a shotgun start. The cost to participate is $200, and registration includes lunch, 18 holes of golf, golf cart rental, swag bag, online and live auction, prizes, and more.

The scholarships funded will be:

  • Barker Leadership Scholarship
  • Barker Academic Scholarship
  • \Barker Skills Scholarship
  • Barker Female Scholarship
  • Barker Invitational Awards – Covers SMHA registration fees for the 2024/25 season for five players

“I was fortunate to participate in many team sports as a child. These experiences helped shape who I am and helped me achieve my goals both professionally and personally,” said Cameron Barker of Barker Hockey Development.

“With the rising sports costs, supporting our local sports initiatives is crucial. I am passionate about offering children in the community the opportunity and facilities to participate in sports.”

Tickets are now on sale online here, and there are also still sponsorship opportunities for individuals by emailing Taylor at [email protected].
