Nawaz XI clinches Champions Trophy in Wathoora Cricket Tournament – greaterkashmir

Budgam, July 14: The annual Champions Troph.y tournament at Wathoora, Budgam, concluded Saturday with a grand event at Shah Qalandar sports stadium. Nawaz XI emerged victorious, securing the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 60,000.

SSP Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Staff Officer to DGP & Commandant IR 6th Battalion, was the chief guest, while noted social activist Dr. Raja Muzaffar Bhat attended as guest of honor.

In the final match, Nawaz XI batted first, scoring 225 runs in 25 overs. Their opponents, Bindas XI, fell short, scoring 188 runs. Amir Takka was named man of the match, and Juwais Manzoor received the man of the series award.

SSP Bhat congratulated the winners and encouraged the runners-up. He praised the organisers, including Lateef Tiger, Younus Ahmad, Imtiyaz Bhat, Maqsood Sports, and Wathoora Sports Association, for their efforts in promoting cricket. Bhat assured J&K Police’s support for such initiatives, highlighting their role in promoting healthy lifestyles and deterring youth from drug use.

The two-month tournament featured 48 teams, with the inaugural match played by visually challenged cricketers on May 8, launched by noted cricketer Parvez Rasool.
