In spite of hitting the headlines almost every day, US Open champion Coco Gauff ‘s life “didn’t change” at all. With a record of seven WTA titles and Time’s Annual Women of the Year title, she has already established her dominance on the professional tennis court like a queen. Despite an unbelievable record, Gauff’s latest bits tell why she thinks this success can’t captivate her “whole entire life.” 

In an interview with the Tennis Channel, Coco Gauff delved deeper into what her life was like when she earned her debut Grand Slam title last year. While fans expected this 20-year-old to speak about how she became a sensation overnight, Gauff politely won fraternity’s hearts with her inspirational bits. “That much like I felt like If I went in the previous times going into Grand Slams thinking my life would change in my first final and then I lost, the sun rose the next day, there were there was no demons, there was no fire. The earth wasn’t on fire. Everything was fine. And so and the same thing when I won, there wasn’t I didn’t have a you know, an amazing, I wasn’t living in heaven. Even I was very happy, don’t get me wrong. But my life didn’t change”- she said.

Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka by 2-6, 6-3, and 6-2 to win her career’s debut Grand Slam trophy last year. Holding a Grand Slam trophy as a teenager must have been surreal for Gauff. However, she further expressed that despite winning or losing matches, her professional achievements can’t be the portrayal of her entire life or who she is. “I still, you know, I, I went back, I went to my grandparents home and I was like, this is all normal. So that’s why I think that moment made me realise that what I do on the court, it’s great, but it doesn’t you know, captivate my whole entire life. And I’ve learned that from the losses. And I have learned that from the wins. I have learned that from both situations” said Gauff.

At last, this US Open champion spoke about how this realization took away her nervousness while participating in the major tennis tours. “And I think now going into these grand Slams, Australia, I was like very nervous. Then I had realization coming into here where I was like, My life didn’t change after I lost my life didn’t change after I won”- Gauff concluded.

At the age of just 20, this American WTA star has won seven WTA singles including a major in the US Open. Parallel to her singles record, Gauff bagged eight doubles titles showing her true brilliance in the sport. This is one of the tournaments I consistently play my best at, I have unfinished business on the court. I’m super excited to be able to compete. I couldn’t think of a better city to compete in” she said. Gauff made it to the Finals of the French Open in 2022 but she lost it to Swiatek. Last year, she reached the quarterfinals and again lost to Swiatek. Following, her resilience this time fans are waiting to see if she makes it work in the finals of the French Open tour.
