More infrastructure introduced at Cumberland Campground

Some new infrastructure at Cumberland Lake Park will serve as a play area for children and help restore the shoreline as well.

A new nature play space recently opened, which will entertain children and aid in riparian restoration at the same time. The project features newly planted trees and native vegetation, safeguarded by fencing, alongside a nature play area with various log structures and a shade sail.

The previous playground was removed in 2020, due to safety concerns related to the age of the equipment. Lake Park Society spearheaded the replacement effort as the project aligns with the society’s mission of creating wonder and connection through outdoor experiences.

Lake Park Society members thank the many generous donors who helped make this project possible, including the Rotary Club of Cumberland Centennial and Mainroad North Island along with over 60 other individuals and local businesses.

“The Village congratulates Lake Park Society on the lovely addition of the play features, shade and riparian plantings to the shoreline of Comox Lake,” said Village of Cumberland Mayor Brown. “We are thrilled with the continued progress on shoreline restoration, and are grateful for the hard work of the society and our continued partnership.”

Lake Park Society is an innovative non-profit social enterprise that has been contracted by the Village of Cumberland for the operation of Cumberland Lake Park Campground since 2015.

Lake Park Society operates like a business but invests all its profits back into the community. Among other things, the Society creates jobs for local youth, stewards the park and provides low-barrier outdoor experiences that celebrate nature, build community and inspire learning.
