Missouri Southern Men’s Basketball Hosting Youth Skills Camp

JOPLIN, MO — Out at Missouri Southern this morning, the MSSU Men’s Basketball team was hosting their Youth Skills Camp.

The camp was for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade and it ran from 9-12 p.m.

The camp was being run by the Missouri Southern coaching staff since the players are currently on a break right now.

Coaches took the kids through different drill work that involved ball handling, shooting, passing and dribbling.

They will have another session next week on Monday and Tuesday.

We caught up with Head Coach Sam McMahon on how important it is to give back to their community as well as some campers who expressed what they’re enjoying the most.

MSSU Head Coach Sam McMahon said, “And that’s why I tell parents too, just because their struggle at this level or struggle at this age, that doesn’t mean they can’t become a great basketball player. So it’s definitely fulfilling to see the improvement just in one day and really see how they get better. And fall in love with the game. And and it’s awesome to see”.

Max Finley said, “It’s really great. Pretty good coaches. It’s just really been, really fun camp so far”.

Cale Spencer said, “The camp has been really fun so far. My favorite thing about the camp is probably the scrimmaging”.
