Mississippi State Basketball: Mississippi State basketball teams learn matchups for 2024 ACC-SEC Challenge

Mississippi State men’s basketball will host Pittsburgh in the second annual ACC-SEC Challenge on Dec. 4 at Humphrey Coliseum, while the Bulldog women will play at Georgia Tech on the same day.

The MSU men are 1-1 all-time against the Panthers, having defeated them on the road during the 2000-01 season before dropping a 60-59 decision in the 2023 NCAA Tournament First Four in Dayton, Ohio. The Bulldogs lost at Georgia Tech in last year’s inaugural ACC-SEC Challenge, their first defeat of the season.

Other confirmed non-conference games for MSU are at home against Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 12 and at home against Prairie View A&M on Dec. 8. The Bulldogs will battle McNeese in Tupelo on Dec. 14 and visit Memphis on Dec. 21.

On the women’s side, MSU leads the all-time series against the Yellow Jackets 5-1, including 2-0 in Atlanta. The two programs last met in the first round of the 2024 WBIT on Mar. 21, with the Bulldogs routing Georgia Tech 84-47. Their last meeting in Atlanta came in December 2006, a 62-56 MSU victory. The shorthanded Bulldogs fell to Miami in the ACC-SEC Challenge last season, and like the men, it was MSU’s first loss of the year.

The ACC had contested an annual challenge during the week after Thanksgiving with the Big Ten since 1999 in men’s basketball and since 2007 in women’s basketball. But because ESPN holds the broadcast rights and the Big Ten no longer has a media rights deal with ESPN, the SEC replaced the Big Ten for the event starting in 2023.
