Michael Vaughan Takes Dig At Virat, Rohit & Jadeja, Says ‘They Should Have Won…’ – News18

Former England men’s cricket team captain Michael Vaughan, who has now donned the hat of an expert and commentator, has taken a cheeky dig at Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja for not winning more ICC trophies. According to Vaughan, the Indian trio, who announced their retirement from T20Is after helping India win the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup, should have won more ICC white-ball trophies.

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Vaughan, who was the captain of the English team that won the Ashes in 2005, said, “They’ll all agree that it is a perfect way to go, but they should have won more white ball trophies amongst them. To think that he (Rohit) has taken another seventeen years to get another one in his hand, I think he will be the first one to admit that they should have won one or two more.”

The 49-year-old, however, admitted that their decision to quit T20Is came at the right time, and now they can focus on Tests and ODIs along with the IPL.

“What a way to go out with a win in Barbados and a trophy in your hand! Now they can sit back and play Test cricket, a bit of one-day cricket, and in the IPL, like MS Dhoni, play on forever. In Indian cricket, they will be replaced as there’s plenty of talent in that team,” he added.

Kohli was the first to announce his retirement from the shortest format of the game. During the post-match interaction after India’s seven-run win in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, Kohli confirmed that the final was his last match in T20Is. India captain Rohit gave a double jolt to Indian fans when, during the post-match press conference, he confirmed his retirement as well. A day after India’s first ICC title win in 11 years, Jadeja also quit T20Is.

While Kohli finished his career as the leading run scorer in T20 World Cup history, Rohit was the leading run scorer in T20Is when he called time on his 17-year-long career. The 37-year-old top-order batter is the only Indian to win two T20 World Cup titles and the first captain in history to win 50 T20Is.
