Men’s Basketball Signs A Pair For 2024-25 – Augustana University Athletics

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head men’s basketball coach Cody Schilling has announced the additions of Bennett Fried and Malyk Rebetez to the 2024-25 roster.

Bennett Fried | Guard/Forward | 6’7″ | La Crosse, Wis. | La Crosse Central HS | Drake

Schilling on Fried:
“Bennett brings length, athleticism and versatility to our small forward position. He has a tremendous upside and his best basketball is definitely in front of him. He is a great student and someone I am extremely excited to coach and work with. Augustana fans, please help me welcome Bennett to the Augustana men’s basketball Family!”

Previous School: Fried redshirted for the Missouri Valley Champion Drake Bulldogs in 2023-24.

High School: Fried was a three-year starter and senior captain at La Crosse Central HS. He averaged 16 points and seven rebounds for the Region Champion and State Semifinalist Riverhawks as a senior. He was named All-Conference First Team, All-State honorable mention and Academic All-State while earning a nod for the WBCA All-Star game. As a junior, Fried helped lead his team to the state championship game while earning all-conference honorable mention.

Personal: Bennett is the son of Barry and Laurie Fried. While at Augustana, he plans on majoring in sport management. 

Malyk Rebetez | Guard | 6’3″ | Lausanne, Switzerland | Casper College

Schilling on Rebetez:
“Malyk is a 6’3 point guard who can see the floor extremely well, defend his position and rebound at a high level. He takes care of the ball and makes everyone on the floor better. Malyk has played high level basketball his entire life and will immediately step in and be ready to make an impact on the court for us. Vikings fans are going to love watching Malyk the next two seasons. Welcome Malyk to the Augustana men’s basketball Family!”

Previous School: Rebetez averaged 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and a team-high 4.5 assists per game while helping the Thunderbirds to a 24-9 record and a trip to the third round of the region tournament. He was a team captain at Casper and spent his first season at State College of Florida. 

Personal: Malyk is the son of Vanessa Rebetez and Eric Morris. While at Augustana, he plans on majoring in business.
