Mehl, Grattan, Raina Ports win 4th of July golf
WHITEFISH — Whitefish’s Cory Mehl and Andrew Medley of Scottsdale, Arizona, ended up tied for the men’s titles at the Earl Hunt Memorial Fourth of July Tournament Saturday, before Mehl got the victory at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Whitefish’s Brad Grattan went way low for a nine-stroke win in the men’s senior division as well.
Medley had the low score Saturday, a 68 that started with a bogey but included five birdies. Mehl, who came in with a three-shot lead, fired a 71. Both golfers shot 209 over 54 holes.
Raina Ports finished strong to claim the women’s title. Ports, a University of Montana golfer out of Oro Valley, Arizona, got her strongest challenge from her twin sister and fellow Grizzly Hannah. But a two-under-par 34 over the final nine pushed her margin of victory to six strokes through 54 holes.
Grattan fired the lowest score among the seniors all three days, including a 6-under 66 on Friday that put him in command. He had five birdies on the back nine Friday.
