Mumbai: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is planning to build a massive cricket stadium in Amane village in Thane district, TOI has learnt. “The MCA is looking to build a massive 1 lakh capacity cricket stadium, spread on around 50 acres of open land in Amane, which is 26km off Thane, and 68km from the Wankhede Stadium. The MCA has filled the open tender floated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to acquire the land parcel. The association is waiting for approval from the Maharashtra govt,” a source said. On Friday, during the felicitation function of Maharashtra’s four players who were a part of the World Cup-winning team, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had requested the chief minister, Eknath Shinde, to consider building a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Mumbai with a crowd capacity of over one lakh. “This stadium was a dream project of MCA president Amol Kale (who passed away on June 10 in New York). It will have all the modern amenities, including two grounds on which first-class matches can be played,” the source added. Incidentally, Kale was a close friend of Fadnavis. Meanwhile, TOI has also learnt that India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will receive Rs 75 lakh out of the Rs 11 crore that chief minister Shinde announced as prize money for the state’s four cricketers and the support staff, who were a part of India’s T20 World Cup winning team.“All the four India players (skipper Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal) will receive Rs 2.5 crore each, Mhambrey will receive Rs 75 lakh, while masseur Arun Kanade will get Rs 25 lakh,” the source said
