Match Awards from Germany’s devastating EURO 2024 quarterfinals loss to Spain

The Bayern Munich boys experienced yet another devastating last second defeat but with their national side, Germany, this time.

Jersey Swap: Dani Olmo

Toni Kroos fouling Pedri and forcing him off early might have turned the game for Spain as his substitute, Olmo, scored Spain’s goal in normal time and then set up the winner for Mikel Merino.

Der Kaiser: Joshua Kimmich

Kimmich was captain material today and displayed his excellence all throughout the match. The Bayern star was crucial for the goal and an outlet for Germany at times.

Fußballgott: Jamal Musiala

Musiala fulfilled multiple roles today and in the first half, whenever he was involved, Germany seemed set to create something. This was another excellent performance from Musiala aside from the fact that his decision-making needs to improve just a bit (he chose to dribble too much rather than pass at times).

Der Bomber: Thomas Müller

There might be slight bias in there but Müller played some delicious passes and crosses once he came on. His lack of speed cost him but he deserved to have at least one assist to his name today, either courtesy of Florian Wirtz or Niclas Füllkrug.

Meister of the Match: Florian Wirtz

He scored Germany’s goal and changed the game when he came on. He was the magician we all know him to be and his goal was taken perfectly. He had chances to win the game for Germany and might regret not taking one or two but he was simply unplayable and magical today.
