Man Utd transfer news live Ten Hag ‘deadline set’ as shock candidate emerges

The summer transfer window is now less than a week away from opening and Manchester United are still yet to announce a decision on Erik ten Hag’s future.

Ineos have been conducting an end-of-season review in recent weeks and the outcome of that is set to decide the Dutchman’s fate. He is fighting to keep his job after overseeing an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League in 2023/24.

However, he did boost his chances of remaining in charge by leading the club to a 13th FA Cup crown at Wembley last month. United beat Manchester City 2-1 via goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Over the weekend, speculation concerning Ten Hag’s future continued to mount, with reports coming out of Germany claiming Thomas Tuchel had met United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and held talks about the prospect of taking over at Old Trafford. However, a separate report then claimed Tuchel had no plans to return to management so soon after leaving Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, United are continuing to be linked with a plethora of names ahead of the transfer window opening on Friday. Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is understood to be a leading target while reports tipping them to move for Joao Neves are becoming more frequent.

Tottenham ‘leading United’ in Eze race

According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are ‘leading United’ in the race to sign Crystal Palace attacking-midfielder Eberechi Eze.

The England international enjoyed an eye-catching 2023/24 campaign for Palace, scoring 11 goals and registering six assists across all competitions. The report states Spurs are currently in the ‘box seat’ to secure his signature this summer, but that United’s hierarchy want to make him a ‘marquee signing’ at Old Trafford.

It is reported that Eze has a £60million release clause in his Palace contract.

Galatasaray ‘submit bid’ for United duo

According to Turkish news outlet Milliyet, Galatasaray have ‘submitted’ an offer worth €25million (£21.2m at current exchange rate) for United duo Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Scott McTominay.

Both players could be among those who are sold by United this summer amid the fact their respective contracts are due to expire in June 2025. Furthermore, McTominay, after scoring 10 goals in 2023/24, is one of the most sellable assets within the squad.

Following the ‘submission’ of their bid, it is reported that Galatasaray are now ‘waiting for a response’ from United. The ‘offer’ is likely to be laughed off by United bosses.

Eriksen: ‘Saudi move doesn’t interest me’

United midfielder Christian Eriksen has admitted that he has no interest in the prospect of moving to the Saudi Pro League.

The Dane is in danger of being offloaded by United in this summer’s transfer window due to impending changes that are expected to be made at Old Trafford. He joined the club from Brentford on a free transfer in 2022.

Saudi Arabia has been mentioned as a potential destination for the midfield ace, but he has shut down the prospect of that coming to fruition.

Eriksen told Danish media outlet Bold:

“I have never received an offer, and I have made sure that it has never been approached. If my agent has said something, I’ve always said that I don’t even want to know what it is, because it’s not something that interests me.”

It remains to be seen where the 44-year-old ends up next, though an indication of where that could be has been offered from his native country.

According to a latest report by SPORT, the four-time Champions League winner is planning a sabbatical at present amid all the pressure he endured during his Camp Nou reign. It is added Xavi “would like” to become a manager in the Premier League, where he could “take on an interesting project”.
