Man Utd news – Latest updates on Ten Hag, Casemiro, Greenwood swap deal

Barnes on Rashford

John Barnes has admitted that England boss Gareth Southgate has made the right decision to drop Marcus Rashford and leave him out of selection for Euro 2024 this summer.

He told mybettingsites.co.uk: “There’s Eze, Grealish. Foden, Saka and Palmer. There are so many players now compared to maybe two or three years ago. At that time even if Marcus wasn’t playing well he’d get called up. Now Gareth has so many options that are doing well for their club and he couldn’t leave them out.

“It wouldn’t have been right for Gareth to call up Rashford ahead of the rest of the players. It’s unfortunate but the players called up have earned their place.”

Rooney on Mainoo

Wayne Rooney has backed Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo to START for England in midfield at Euro 2024 over Trent Alexander-Arnold.

He told The Overlap: “I’ve watched Trent Alexander-Arnold play in midfield a few times and I think he loses a lot of his qualities from there. His delivery is incredible, and he picks passes from midfield, but I think he must fight it out with Kyle Walker. I know Walker is the best right back in the world at the minute, but I think midfield is such an important position.

“It’s not that Trent isn’t good in midfield, but I think Kobbie Mainoo should play in midfield, with the discipline he has from a defensive point of view, especially when you come up against the bigger teams.”

Ten Hag to get last laugh over Glazer

Ten Hag is currently celebrating a strong end to a forgettable campaign that saw United finish 8th in the Premier League but qualify for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup. A final review is understood to be in the pipeline to decide the former Ajax manager’s future at Old Trafford.

If his premiership at the club is to end this summer, Ten Hag may depart with a wry smile as a key disagreement he reportedly had with Glazer has finished with him looking the better. It was an impasse concerning long-term United forward Anthony Martial.
