Man United transfer news live Erik ten Hag latest as Man Utd sent UEFA warning

It is now more than a week since Manchester United lifted the FA Cup and the club is still yet to communicate a decision on manager Erik ten Hag’s future.

The Ineos Group started their end-of-season review last week and the outcome of that is set to decide Ten Hag’s future at the club. However, sources indicated that a decision would not be announced imminently.

With the opening of the summer transfer window now a little over a week away, United need to make a decision one way or another. The prospect of a decision being delayed much longer risks impacting their transfer plans.

Speaking of the window, United are continuing to be linked with a plethora of players ahead of it opening on June 14. The Reds have identified key positions they wish to strengthen and links with the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Michael Olise are persisting.

Elsewhere, England will step up their Euro 2024 preparations tonight, hosting Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James’ Park. It marks their penultimate friendly ahead of travelling to Germany for the tournament.

You can follow all of the day’s very latest United news and views by following the live blog below:

Al Nassr ‘seriously considering’ big-money move for Fernandes

According to a report by CaughtOffside, Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr are ‘seriously considering’ a €150million bid for United captain Bruno Fernandes.

Ahead of the transfer window opening next week, speculation concerning Fernandes’ future at Old Trafford is mounting, despite the player recently confirming he has no intentions of leaving the club.

However, it is reported that Al Nassr are ‘considering trying their luck’ with an eye-watering bid for the attacking-midfielder.

Juventus ‘serious’ about signing Greenwood

According to a report by Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport, as cited by Football Italia, Juventus are ‘serious’ about signing United forward Mason Greenwood this summer.

The forward is poised to leave United on a permanent basis ahead of next season after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Spanish club Getafe.

According to several reports, Juventus are set to appoint Bologna head coach Thiago Motta as their new boss and Greenwood is said to be a player who ‘matches’ his play style.

OPINION: INEOS could be about to get rid of something Ten Hag said he wanted at United

“Despite’s Marcus Rashford’s drop-off, Rasmus Hojlund ended his debut season at Old Trafford with 16 goals to his name. While it was by no means a blistering return, it was most certainly respectable. But Rashford’s tally of eight goals in all competitions meant there was an increase in pressure on the Dane to deliver the goods. However, arriving in England as a 20-year-old, United had to manage expectations. Fortunately, United’s midfielders stepped up this season, with Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen, Hannibal Mejbri and Casemiro scoring 38 goals between them.”

Ten Hag hoping for an answer ‘this week’

According to Sky Sports, United manager Erik ten Hag is ‘hoping to find out this week’ if he will remain in charge at Old Trafford.

Ineos have been conducting an end-of-season review following United’s 2-1 triumph over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley a little over a week ago.

The Dutchman has been under pressure to keep his job after United finished eighth in the Premier League this season, but the club’s FA Cup success could save his job.

McTominay to miss Scotland friendly later today

United midfielder Scott McTominay will play no part in Scotland’s friendly against Gibraltar this teatime, boss Steve Clarke has confirmed.

Scotland will step up their Euro 2024 preparations this teatime, facing Gibraltar in Portugal at 5pm BST.

Scotland will play again before travelling to Germany for the tournament, locking horns with Finland on Friday night, and Clarke has said he is “pretty confident” McTominay will play some part of that one. He was forced off in the FA Cup final just over a week ago with a small injury complaint.

United to make a ‘big effort’ to sign Neves

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, United are going to make a ‘big effort’ to sign Benfica midfielder Joao Neves in this summer’s transfer window.

United have been heavily linked with swooping for the midfielder in recent months amid their plan to strengthen their midfield pool this summer. Neves, 19, is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the world and United are reportedly determined to sign him.

However, he is also being linked with a plethora of other big-name clubs, including Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

Maguire ‘in a race’ for be fit for England’s Euro 2024 opener

According to a report by The Telegraph, United defender Harry Maguire is ’emerging as a serious injury doubt’ for England’s European Championship opener against Serbia later this month.

The Three Lions will kick-off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on Sunday, June 16. They will play two warm-up matches ahead of travelling to Germany, starting tonight against Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James’ Park.

They will then face Iceland at Wembley on Friday night in their final warm-up match.

Maguire is recovering from a muscle injury he sustained in early-May, forcing him to miss United’s final four matches of the season. England boss Gareth Southgate, speaking yesterday, confirmed Maguire will play no part in tonight’s game, likewise United teammate Luke Shaw.

Palace ‘keen’ on Amrabat

According to a report by We Are Palace, Crystal Palace are ‘keen’ on signing United loanee Sofyan Amrabat in this summer’s transfer window.

Amrabat joined United on loan from Fiorentina last summer and the Reds have the option to sign him on a permanent basis. A decision on that front is yet to be made.

Amrabat ended the season well but had struggled to make his mark at Old Trafford prior to the final month of the campaign.

It is reported that Palace are one of ‘multiple Premier League clubs’ interested in securing his signature if United choose not to sign him.

OPINION: Ten Hag admission hints at unthinkable United transfer decision thanks to FA Cup win

“What’s most frustrating and potentially troublesome for United is the fact Luke Shaw, when fit, is one of the best left-backs in the world. He was instrumental during the 2022/23 season, producing an excellent partnership down United’s left-hand side with Marcus Rashford. He also linked up nicely with Lisandro Martinez on the left of the defence. Amid the fact Shaw has played north of 30 matches in just one of the last three seasons, it does create a question about his reliability to remain United’s first-choice left-back. Qualification for the Europa League after their FA Cup success means United could play up to 67 matches – the maximum they could have played without European football would have been 51, not far off the highest number of appearances Shaw has made for United in a single season.”

United’s stance on Garnacho’s involvement at the Olympics

United are yet to make a decision on the prospect of Alejandro Garnacho being included in Argentina’s plans for the Olympics in Paris this summer.

Garnacho has already been included in Argentina’s provisional squad for the Copa America and it remains to be seen, despite reports elsewhere saying otherwise, if he will feature in Paris. A report on Sunday claimed there was no chance of him being included.

City ‘keeping tabs’ on Branthwaite as they rival United

Manchester City are ‘keeping tabs’ on Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite ahead of this summer’s transfer window, according to Football Insider.

The centre-back, who could feature for England against Bosnia and Herzegovina this evening, is a concrete target for United ahead of the transfer window opening next week. United have grand ambitions to strengthen their centre-back options and Branthwaite is among their targets.

He is understood to have been monitored by United over the last few months. Everton, however, are expected to demand at least £70million to sell him.

Williams shares Ipswich message after loan ends

United defender Brandon Williams has said it was a ‘privilege’ to spend the 2023/24 season on loan at Ipswich Town, helping them clinch promotion to the Premier League.

Williams joined the Tractor Boys on a season-long loan deal last summer in a bid to store more regular minutes under his belt. However, he ended the season with just 17 appearances to his name because of injury and illness-related issues.

He last played for the Suffolk club in December.

Araujo gives update on his future amid United links

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has confirmed that his representatives will hold talks with the club’s hierachy amid ongoing speculation about his future.

The centre-back has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months amid United’s plan to strengthen their centre-back options this summer. It is understood the Reds want to sign two central defenders in this summer’s transfer window.

Araujo, who is set to feature for Uruguay at the Copa America this summer, said:

“I’m very good. I’m calm. I have a contract until 2026. Now, my representatives will meet with the club.”

Fofana confirms Monaco agreement amid United links

AS Monaco have reached an agreement with Youssouf Fofana that will allow the midfielder to leave the club this summer, he has confirmed.

The Frenchman is being heavily linked with an exit from the Ligue 1 club ahead of the transfer window opening next week and United have been credited with interest. The defensive-midfielder, 25, is likely to have a plethora of suitors.

He said:

“I have spoken about it with the hierarchy, it isn’t a secret. We had exchanges and they agreed to accompany me in this new stage. If [a move] doesn’t happen, I still have a year left and I will be happy to stay. We were in agreement that we would accompany each other in this process in which everyone should be a winner, be it me or the club.”

Villa could be ‘forced’ into Luiz sale amid United links

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Aston Villa could be ‘forced’ into selling midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer amid ongoing links with United.

The Brazilian played a key role in helping Villa clinch a top four finish this season, as well as contributing 10 goals in all competitions. It is reported that interest in his signature is mounting ahead of the transfer window opening next week.

Arsenal, Liverpool and United have all been credited with interest in his signature.

Al Nassr ‘ready to offer €90-100m’ for Casemiro

Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr are ‘ready to offer around €90-100million’ to try and sign Casemiro from United this summer, according to a report by CaughtOffside.

United are understood to be prepared to let Casemiro leave the club in this summer’s transfer window and reports of them being potentially presented with such a lucrative offer will make it impossible for them to turn it down.

The Brazilian regressed this season, failing to hit the high standards he so often hit in 2022/23. The report adds that Al Nassr have made the defensive-midfielder a ‘top target’.

Frenkie De Jong makes fresh future claim

Frenkie de Jong has often been linked with a move to United over the past couple of years.

Erik ten Hag is an admirer of the midfielder following their time at Ajax together. United tried signing him on previous occasions but were unsuccessful.

De Jong has always expressed his happiness at Barcelona, and when asked about his future following the arrival of new boss Hansi Flick, he told Mundo Deportivo:

“Staying at Barca? Yes, I’m very happy in Barcelona with my family, for sure. Hansi Flick wants me to be key? I talked to him, it was good. After the European Championship we will see how he is doing.”

Sancho ‘demand’

According to the Mirror, Jadon Sancho is ready to return to United but only if Erik ten Hag leaves this summer.

The England international has rediscovered his form after joining Borussia Dortmund on loan. While the German giants would like to sign him on a permanent basis, they are faced with two major obstacles.

United are said to have set a price in excess of £50million and would like to recoup his £73m fee back as much as possible.

United told Europa League fate

United are understood to have been cleared to participate in next season’s Europa League, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Nice also playing in Europe’s secondary club competition.

While it appears United have been cleared to play in the competition, UEFA have warned the club they won’t be so lenient in years to come, potentially throwing a spanner in the works should United and Nice again qualify for the same competition.

Southgate changes tune on Shaw

There is a good chance United defender Luke Shaw will make England’s final squad for the European Championship.

Shaw was last in action for United in February after he was substituted at half-time in United’s win against Luton Town. He was included in the provisional England squad.

Southgate told talkSPORT:

“He’s progressing very well, I have to say. I think I said last week that until we had the players in front of us working with us, there was a lot of information that we didn’t have.”

Sellable assset

TV pundit Shaka Hislop, speaking on ESPN, has had his say on the reports linking Bruno Fernandes with a move to Bayern Munich:

“From a Bruno Fernandes perspective, he’s the star of the show at Old Trafford, he is the kingpin in the red part of Manchester, and he wants to see things built around him. From a Manchester United perspective, and we’ve made a lot of this about their financial issues, yes, Sir Jim Ratcliffe coming in, maybe inject some cash, but how does that play with the sustainability regulations? So if he’s a sellable asset, then if there is genuine interest, which again, I am not 100 percent certain that there is genuine interest from Bayern Munich, then Manchester United may be tempted.”

Casemiro could be set for Ronaldo reunion

Casemiro has reportedly been approached by former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo over a transfer to Saudi Arabia.

The Brazilian midfielder is said to be attracting interest from three Saudi Arabian teams, one of them being Ronaldo’s Al Nassr. Al Ahli and Al Qasadiya are also credited with an interest.

Previously speaking about his future, Casemiro said:

“I’m well, I’m happy, living every day I get to play here. As I usually say, Manchester United gave me what I wanted. This joy of being able to enjoy the game, enjoy the Premier League. So, I’m happy to be here at Manchester United and enjoying the game.”

Latest transfer round-up

With the summer transfer window set to open on June 14, a number of names have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag will also have some decisions to make as players are set to return from their loan spells. Despite uncertainty over his future, for now, the Dutchman remains in the job and will be preparing for the 2024/25 season.

Fresh name on the radar

United are reportedly interested in Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.

According to talkSPORT (via the Daily Echo), the club would demand a ‘high fee’ for the left-back, who only joined the club last summer.

Asked how Kerkez was handling the speculation, head coach Andoni Iraola said:

“I think for everyone, you have to focus on the things you control. The best thing for a football player is to try to do your job the best you can. This is the only thing that will put you in the best position. I think that is what everyone should try to do. I try to also do my part and focus on your job, that is what will put you in a better position.”

Ten Hag decision expected

It’s now nine days since United finished their season with a stunning FA Cup win over Man City at Wembley. And nine days of speculation about Erik ten Hag’s future.

The build-up to the cup final was dominated by talk that United would sack Ten Hag regardless of the result, after a woeful league campaign that saw them finish in eighth spot – their worst finish in the Premier League era. There were mitigating factors, as always, with injuries especially used as a reason behind the results, but there was no denying the disappointment.

The Ineos Group started their end-of-season review last week. Technical director Jason Wilcox is at the heart of it. How long the review will take remains to be seen, but what has to happen – and surely will happen – this week is a decision on Ten Hag’s future. The club needs some decisiveness ahead of the official opening of the transfer window. United are already in danger of slipping further behind their rivals when they need to be trying to catch them up.

Expect a decision at some point this week.

Bruno Fernandes ‘talks’

Bayern Munich have reportedly taken the first steps towards signing Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese midfielder is attracting interest from a host of clubs ahead of the transfer window. Fernandes, who addressed his United future after the 3-2 win over Newcastle United last month, said: “I will be here until when the club wants me and the club wants me to be a part of the future. If for some reason they don’t want me, then I will go.”

Now reports in Portugal claim his agent has held talks with Vincent Kompany’s Bayern over a summer switch.
