A person is believed to have drowned in Kelowna’s Okanagan Lake early Saturday morning.
In a brief press release, Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Laura Pollock says police received a report at about 4:30 a.m. that a man had drowned near the Kelowna Downtown Marina.
RCMP officers, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue volunteers and Kelowna firefighters attended the scene, but they were unable to find the man’s body.
Police are now waiting on the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team to find the body.
“Police are asking the public to stay away from the area of the marina to allow this important work to continue,” Sgt. Pollock said. “Please keep all marine traffic 100 feet away from the marina and reduce wake in the area.”
The cause of the death has not been confirmed, Sgt. Pollock says, but “it does not appear suspicious.”
